Hand-made sand casting techniques make it possible for Montague Metals to create products of all shapes and sizes. Consider their line of Sun Dials and Weathervanes. Into their sand cast of the object they pour .319 grade recycled aluminum. The resulting products have raised borders ranging from 1/4" to 5/8 thick, with a body thickness between 1/8" and 3/16". This procedure not only helps prevent cracking or splitting, but adds to the longevity of the product. After casting, pieces are cleaned and prepped in the finishing department. Black backgrounds are a baked-on enamel finish and painted finishes consist of two coats of air dry laquer paint. Any borders or lettering are hand applied. After all this work is complete, a semigloss clearcoat is applied for extra shine. Great care is also taken when packaging these fine products. Plaques are first shrink wrapped, then boxed with the appropriate hardware. Montague is a family owned business who believes in providing quality, from start to finish.
